Job Description

A government agency in Orange County is seeking an experienced and motivated Plan Check Engineer to join our Building & Safety Division. This is a vital role in ensuring construction across our vibrant community is safe, compliant, and structurally sound.

Under general supervision, the Plan Check Engineer performs complex structural and architectural plan reviews for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This position ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local building codes and provides technical expertise to inspectors, contractors, architects, and the public.

You will serve as a technical advisor to the Chief Building Official and represent the City in interpreting and enforcing building standards while supporting development and public safety across the city.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in plan checking complex commercial or industrial structures and/or code enforcement with a public agency

Licenses & Certifications (Required):
- Valid California Class C driver s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Registered Professional Engineer or Licensed Architect in the State of California
- Certification as a Building Plans Examiner by the ICC (International Code Council)

Highly Desirable Certifications:
- ICC Sub-trade Plans Examiner certifications (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical)
- Certified Access Specialist (CASp)
