Job Description
A City Government in Ventura County is seeking a skilled and motivated Accountant to join its Finance Department. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to support the City s commitment to financial transparency, accountability, and service to the community. Depending on qualifications, the position may be filled at the Accountant I (entry-level) or Accountant II (journey-level).
Under direction, the Accountant performs a wide variety of professional accounting duties in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards. Responsibilities include general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, audit preparation, and support for payroll, accounts payable/receivable, budget activities, and fixed asset management.
- Accountant I is the entry-level classification, ideal for individuals with a solid foundation in accounting principles who are eager to grow their professional skills.
- Accountant II is the journey-level classification, performing the full range of accounting responsibilities with greater independence and may provide technical guidance to staff.

- Education: Associate s degree with major coursework in accounting or business administration.
- Experience: Two years of responsible accounting experience, preferably in the public sector.
- License: Valid California driver s license.
Accountant II
- Education: Bachelor s degree with major coursework in accounting or business administration.
- Experience: Four years of governmental accounting experience comparable to Accountant I.
- License: Valid California driver s license.
- Education: Associate s degree with major coursework in accounting or business administration.
- Experience: Two years of responsible accounting experience, preferably in the public sector.
- License: Valid California driver s license.

- Education: Bachelor s degree with major coursework in accounting or business administration.
