COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Job Description
A city government in Los Angeles County is seeking a highly qualified, forward-thinking, and customer-focused leader to serve as its next Community Development Director. This is a transformational opportunity for a dynamic professional to join the City s leadership team and help guide the community through a period of growth, revitalization, and preservation.
In partnership with the City Manager, the Director will be instrumental in shaping the long-term planning, economic development, sustainability, and historic preservation efforts of this vibrant, engaged community. With a strong emphasis on innovation, smart growth, and community character, the Director will oversee all aspects of the Planning and Community Development Department, including:
- Planning
- Building & Safety
- Arts and Economic Development
- Code Enforcement
Job Requirements
- Strong experience with current and long-range planning, housing, and economic development.
- Familiarity with CEQA, zoning codes, and historic preservation practices.
- Proven leadership in team building, staff development, and performance management.
- Ability to foster a culture of customer service, innovation, and accountability.
- Political acumen and experience working with elected officials, community groups, and developers.
Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Urban Planning, Public or Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- Master s degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible municipal experience in planning, housing administration, or economic development.
- At least two (2) years must have been in an executive or senior management role.
