Job Description

A government agency in Sonoma County is seeking a visionary, collaborative, and hands-on leader to serve as the next Assistant Community Development Director. This critical leadership role helps guide the City s efforts to meet housing goals, advance climate resiliency, and build a sustainable future through forward-thinking planning, inclusive policies, and effective departmental operations.

Reporting to the Community Development Director, the Assistant Director provides strategic support in the overall administration and management of the department. This includes:
- Leading day-to-day operations of assigned divisions
- Supervising and mentoring a multidisciplinary team
- Implementing departmental goals, policies, and programs
- Promoting collaboration across City departments and with the community
- Supporting and delivering innovative solutions to planning, housing, and sustainability challenges

Job Requirements

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities includes:
Education:
- A Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field
- A Master s degree is highly desirable
Experience:
- At least two (2) years of management or supervisory experience in planning, community development, or a related field
- Experience in program development, policy implementation, and departmental administration is essential
