A local government agency in southern Los Angeles County is looking for an experienced Public Works Director to join its Public Works/Engineering Department. The expected duration for this position is at least 3+ months. This is full-time position and can be extended or made permanent at clients discretion. Compensation is DOE/DOQ.

Oversees the operation of the Engineering Division activities and programs by setting objectives; and planning, organizing, directing and monitoring the performance of staff.
Provides leadership to the Construction Management section to provide inspection, contract administration for permitted work and Capital Improvement projects.
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the engineering division.
Develops the annual Capital Improvement Program by identifying short and long term goals and objectives to provide quality infrastructure.
Supervises and participates with a staff of professional engineers and technical assistants engaged in the preparation of design criteria, design specifications, plans, cost estimates and contract bids, and related matters; establishes, schedules, and reviews work; approves completed designs, specifications, plans, and contracts.
Supervises and participates in the formulation, preparation, and maintenance of long range and current engineering plans of public works activities.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of local, regional, state and federal officials, consultants, contractors, community groups and organizations.
Reviews and recommends procedures, policies, and schedules of engineering services and public works maintenance.
Reviews and recommends adjustments to engineering and developer fees to reflect the costs of providing services and to construct capital improvements.
Negotiates contracts and reviews work of consulting architects and engineers.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be Equivalent to a Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public works, business administration, or a related field and seven (7) years of responsible public works services experience, including five (5) years of management experience.
