An government organization in Los Angeles County, CA is looking for a Public Works Director who will as head of the Public Works Department. This is a full-time position with a duration of at least 4 to 6+ months and can become permanent at the clients discretion. Compensation is DOE/DOQ.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Plans, assigns, directs and exercises administrative supervision over divisional employees engaged in a wide variety of engineering services and public service maintenance and operating tasks; studies departmental organization, personnel distribution and project requirements to effect the most efficient and economical utilization of available personnel.
Supervises the formulation, preparation and maintenance of long range and current engineering plans of agency wide public works activities.
Reviews plats and construction plans for proposed subdivisions prior to recommending approval.
Attends meetings and serves as a liaison in overall engineering activities between other municipalities, county, state and federal agencies, public utilities and other civic and professional organizations.
Reviews and recommends procedures, policies and schedules of engineering projects and the street maintenance program; analyzes and adjusts budget requests; prepares a variety of reports; prescribes general rules, regulations and administrative policies for the department
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Extensive progressively responsible experience in the field of civil engineering, including considerable supervisory experience and graduation from a four year college or university with major course work in civil engineering.

REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL LEVELS:
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal public services.
Extensive knowledge of the investigation, design, construction and maintenance methods, materials and equipment used in general public works project.
Thorough knowledge of modern approved practices in subdivision control, including their relation to municipal planning and zoning.
Extensive knowledge of management and administrative practices and procedures related to public services management.
