Directs all library programs, services and activities, including ensuring compliance with state and
federal regulation and laws, codes, and local ordinances governing these activities; preparing
recommendations on departmental issues for the City Manager and City Council; and managing
departmental personnel. Develops and implements sound library services programs. Implements
and monitors the effectiveness of the strategic plan. Directs the implementation of the City s
policies and programs to ensure effective implementation of the City Council s goals and objectives
to maintain fiscal integrity. Assists in the development and implementation of the City s overall
goals, objectives, policies and priorities. Analyzes data, make recommendations, prepare reports
and make presentations of the formulation of policy and procedure, staffing and organizational
requirements for the Department to the City Manager, City Council, Library Board, and
Commissions. Prepares and effectively monitors the Departmental budget. Conducts difficult
policy, marketing, and fiscal related analytical studies and reports involving the evaluation of
departmental programs. Attends conferences, schools, and professional meetings to keep abreast
of new developments in library issues. Represents the City in the community and at professional
meetings as required. Coordinates activities with other City departments and other public and
private agencies. Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in library science in a public agency,
preferably in a managerial position, with supervisory experience.
A Master s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an accredited college or
