A government agency in Harris County, TX is looking for an IT Specialist to take over a vacant position within its IT Division. This position listed temp-to-hire and is to run for at least 6 months and for the right individual could very likely become permanent. Compensation is DOE/DOQ.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Participates in the analysis, design, evaluation, testing, and implementation of computer systems; assists in studies of potential data processing applications and in the design of proposals to reflect costs, timing, and alternative actions to satisfy existing and future needs; assists in creating specifications for systems to meet business requirements.
Assists users to resolve problems with available technology, including hardware, software, peripherals and networks; identifies, prioritizes, and resolves systems problems to mitigate downtime; recommends hardware and software purchases or upgrades; configures\ operating system, shrink-wrap programs, and applications software; trains users in all applications; develops, maintains, and ensures distribution and availability of training materials; monitors and maintains records of application and workstation problems and provides solutions; tests new applications.
Prepares computer operations documentation; prepares charts and diagrams to represent system configuration.
Prepares reports for distribution to authorized parties; maintains the operating system programs, libraries, and data files; maintains control logs, access levels, and security of systems; maintains records and files for the Division.
May analyze processes and programs in terms of system capability and desired output; may identify program specification requirements.
Assists operating departments in determining computer and/or telecommunications needs; interacts with hardware, software, and telephone company representatives in systems design and the resolution of problems.
An Associate s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

A minimum of one year of experience in computer operations, system management, and help desk including experience with operating systems and network protocols.
Current network certification is highly desirable.
