A government agency in San Luis Obispo County, CA is looking for a Director of Community Development to take over a vacant position within its Community Development Department. This position is to run for at least 2 to 3 months and for the right individual could very likely become permanent. Compensation is $45 to $50 hourly, DOE/DOQ.

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Planning/Redevelopment and Building Divisions.
Supervises and participates in the preparation of comprehensive reports based upon careful research and study of planning, redevelopment and building problems.
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of professional, technical, and clerical personnel engaged in the compilation, analysis and interpretation of data affecting community planning and development.
Prepares and administers the City's comprehensive general plan within established policies and procedures.
Assigns professional assistants to specific surveys and community planning projects; supervises the compilation of materials and the writing of reports pursuant to such surveys.
Directs preparation of zoning ordinances and zoning maps, and the revision of such ordinances and maps.
Serves as technical advisor to the Planning Commission, City Manager, City Council, and department heads on planning and zoning problems.
Serves as Executive Director of the City s Redevelopment Agency.
Attends City Council and Redevelopment Agency Meetings and study sessions.
Represents the Planning Commission at public meetings and at conferences with other public and private groups.
Coordinates private development with the city service and supervises the progress of redevelopment projects and public projects.
Interprets departmental policies and governing codes and regulations to departmental employees.
Confers or corresponds with architects, building owners, and contractors concerning questions about building codes and regulations.
Gives advice to and cooperates with municipal officials in connection with new or contemplated capital improvements; and coordinates construction projects with the long range capital improvements program.
Prepares budget and manpower estimates for the department.
Performs related work as required.
Extensive progressively responsible experience in the fields of city planning, redevelopment and closely related fields, with considerable supervisory and administrative experience, and graduation from a four year college or university with major course work in planning, public administration, engineering, the social sciences, or related fields. Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) are also preferred.
