Assists the Director in planning divisional activities and projects, preparing the departmental annual budget, and in developing departmental policies and provides for departmental policy pertinent to the Building Division implementation.
Applies considerable technical knowledge in the checking of plans and calculations for compliance with the requirements of the Building Codes and other pertinent codes, ordinances and/or regulations adopted by the agency.
Provides information to engineers, architects, owners, and the public on matters regarding building requirements and structural applications of codes and assists them in bringing plans into conformance with regulations.
Makes field inspections of the more complex or technically demanding sites as needed.
Supervises the work of professional, technical and clerical staff members within the Building Division.
Graduation with a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in construction technology, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
Progressively responsible experience in plan checking, building construction, building inspection or building design, preferably including supervisory responsibilities. A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience is desirable. Additional experience which relates directly to this classification may be substituted for the desired education on a year-to-year basis.
