A local government agency in Contra Costa County is looking for an Assistant Engineer to come on board for a 6 to 12 month assignment. Position available immediately and can become permanent for the right candidate. Compensation is DOE/DOQ.

Primary Duties:
Prepares all phases of engineering design, plans and specifications for the construction of streets, street lighting, traffic signals, signing, striping, pavement markings, parks, recreation facilities, storm drains, parking facilities, and other public work projects.
Performs duties of a resident engineer for City capital investment projects; monitors capital investment budgets for assigned projects; estimates quantities and costs; makes preliminary design studies to determine the most economical and satisfactory type of installation.
Reviews subdivision, development, site improvement, construction, traffic signal, lighting and signal interconnect, striping, and pavement marking plans and applications for conformance to City standards; conducts site visits and field investigations as required; checks for adequacy of design, roadway, geometrics, hydraulics, grading, cost estimates, soil reports, and other factors.
Checks plans, specifications, cost estimates, and special provisions prepared by consulting engineers for City capital investment projects; prepares and compiles engineering and special reports.
Performs field inspections of traffic signal installations and operations, street lighting, signing, striping, parking meter and pavement marking projects; prepares correspondence and reports regarding current and proposed projects.
Conducts traffic and transportation studies; designs, develops, and implements traffic signal timing systems; performs system analysis and provides recommendations to improve signal system effectiveness.
Performs a variety of engineering calculations for hydraulics, street design, right-of-way, grading and other factors.
Provides information to the public on department operations and current and proposed projects.
Coordinates project work with other departments, consultants, architects, and builders.
Attends meetings and conferences; may make presentations to the City Council, Commissions, and other groups; may participate in survey activities.
May direct activities of technical personnel.
A minimum of two years of experience in sub-professional or professional civil or traffic engineering work including engineering design, plan checking, surveying, and/or some construction experience.
Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid Class C California Driver s License and a good driving record.
